Telework Agreement

A telework agreement is a clearly worded, written, signed agreement detailing what each party expects and can provide. Such an agreement should be reviewed and agreed upon before an employee begins teleworking. Both parties should retain signed copies for future reference.

Key telework agreement terms include:

  • A description of where the telework will most commonly occur.
  • A list of resources the employee will need to conduct business away from the office; this should detail what each party will be supplying.
  • A description of cost expectations for working at a telework center, along with details regarding how the costs will be covered.
  • A description of what tasks the employee will be responsible for while teleworking.
  • A description of when the employee will telework and when they will be expected to work in the office.
  • The teleworker’s contact information, the goal being to keep them available for phone calls, emails, etc. when teleworking.
  • A description of standards an employee is expected to maintain in regard to ensuring the safety of sensitive information outside of the office.
  • A description of how emergencies in the office affect the teleworker.
  • A structure by which the manager and teleworker will periodically evaluate the telework agreement and make changes as necessary.
